Delicate… This weeks challenge involves sharing a photo of something that means delicate to me. Whilst many images came to mind, it was a little harder to pin point something in particular. Despite being summer here it has been damp and dreary the last few days and the excited, loud crashes made by children on holiday are far from delicate. So this afternoon, in a dry patch, we wandered to the park, and yes the camera came along.
We found this delicate poppy, fast fading as it’s delicate petals succumb to the elements.
I can’t see a fading flower without recalling the comparison with God’s word.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God will stand forever.
(Isaiah 40:8 ESV)
The delicate nature of the flower points to the eternal nature of God and His Word. If we keep reading in Isaiah we get a further picture of delicate.
He will tend his flock like a shepherd;
he will gather the lambs in his arms;
he will carry them in his bosom,
and gently lead those that are with young.
(Isaiah 40:11 ESV)
This picture of a shepherd delicately carrying a lamb. (I wish I had a photo) The lamb a weak sheep, so vulnerable, delicate, safe in the strong arms of the shepherd. We, like the lamb, so delicate, need the strong arms of a Saviour to carry us where we cannot go, and the eternal word to lead and comfort.
