I have not yet set out to photograph eyes, but as with the sky, it is when I get home to examine the pictures that I see the depth that is added by the expression in the eyes. The eyes can ruin or make a photo!
I love the photo above. There is such light in my daughters eyes. A glint of mischief?
Eyes seem to connect us to the inner person. They give insight into the thoughts and emotions. God made us incredible complex. We are not just physical beings, but also spiritual beings. When I see people’s eyes it feels like a glimpse of that inner invisible in each of us. It is no wonder that when we are struggling internally, whether it be a momentary struggle or something that we are wrestling with over time, this begins to show in downcast and empty eyes. On the other hand, when someone is rejoicing, content, peaceful, hopeful it too shows. It shows in eyes that are lit up with excitement, that glimmer with hope or shimmer with tears of joy.
Jesus calls the eyes the lamp of the body.
The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
(Matthew 6:22-23 ESV)
Eyes cause me to marvel at how fearfully and wonderfully we are made. To marvel at the Creator God who places within us a depth beyond the physical.
